Welcome to Destination Ageless!
You’re in the right place if you’re ready to prove it’s possible to feel and live like you’re in your 40’s again… even though you might be decades older.
Together, we are a community of people who:
- Refuse to believe common misconceptions about aging
- Take simple actions in our quest to become functionally younger, both mentally and physically
- Share our experiences in order to support and motivate each other
In my work as a travel agent, I hear the same message repeatedly; my clients tell me they want to travel as much as possible now, while they still can.
They realize there will come a time, sooner or later, where they will no longer be able to travel due to health and/or mobility issues (either themselves or their partner).
I’m the same age as many of my clients – I’ll turn 57 this year – so I’m starting to think about these types of things myself.
Last summer, I met one of my clients (“Judy”) in person for the first time. We traveled together as part of a large group I was hosting on board a cruise ship, the Seabourn Sojourn.
Judy is in her 80’s but physically fit, mentally sharp, and fully engaged in life. She could physically pass for 60 and she acted much younger than her age. In fact, she talked me into zip-lining with her!
I was so impressed with Judy, and wondered if I would be lucky enough to be like that in my 80’s too.
Judy reminds me a lot of of my friend Doug, who at age 87 is one of the most computer-savvy people I know. He is also the oldest Apple employee in the world (he recently received an award at Apple HQ in Cupertino CA). At an age where many people have trouble figuring out fairly simple actions on their phones and iPads, Doug is trouble-shooting complex technical issues.
Later last summer I was lucky enough to meet Mrs. Beryl Gibson, who happened to be the the godmother of the Viking Viljalm, the river ship we were travelling on together.
At the time, Beryl was 88 years old but legitimately looked… and acted… at least 20 years younger. She still works pretty much full time at her travel agency Northumbria Travel in England, and on the last night of our trip, she was up on the dance floor with everyone else.
Once again I wondered if I would be lucky enough to be like that in my 80’s.
You see, I still thought that people like Judy, Doug, and Beryl were just the ‘lucky ones’, some of the chosen few. I didn’t realize at the time that there are simple things we can all do to extend the ‘good years’.
That all changed recently, when stumbled on a Harvard University study about “Super Agers” – people in their 70s and 80s who have the mental or physical capability of their decades-younger counterparts.
I was shocked to discover that these exceptional older people have characteristics in common, but they are not genetic – they are things we can ALL do.
For example, one thing that Super Agers have in common is that they regularly move out of their comfort zones to gain new areas of expertise. They embrace mental challenges like learning to play a musical instrument or speak a new language.
This is just one example of the characteristics that Super Agers have in common.
I gained a new understanding that aging as we know it is not inevitable.
We can take control of the aging process!
Then and there, I made a commitment to myself to find out what these Super Agers have in common, and do whatever is necessary to become a Super Ager myself.
My mission is to create the world’s largest community of “Super Agers” by sharing ways to stay young, both mentally and physically.
No matter your current age, NOW is the time to take control of how you age, so you can participate fully in all of life’s adventures.
Imagine playing Lego on the floor with your grand-kids or even your great-grand-kids.
Imagine skiing and hiking without pain or fear of injury.
Imagine kayaking amongst the icebergs in Antarctica.
Imagine treking the Inca Trail, and reaching Machu Pichu by foot.
Let your imagination run wild.
Age is just a number. All this (and more) is possible at any age.
